Why do guys ask women for gifts...what happened to the old system where they bought us stuff to "woo" us????

I had a guy ask me for something that cost like $35


but told me I "didn't need" a $2 rose!

Mmmm. I like the "old system" too. Its not that we "need" a flower or whatever it may be, but it is the fact that they thought enough of us to say they were thinking about us and our desires. I certainly don't mind buying my husband gifts at all and before I was married - same deal. I like to give. But it sure is nice to know that the other person wants to do the same in return. NOT that it is required by them, but that they desired to do so. That they enjoy giving as well. Hmm. Thats a good question. Sorry my answer was so long about it. :)

Reply:haha no room in a relationship for materialism and the price shouldn't matter when a significant other buys something for you but also you shouldn't ever ASK for them to buy you something. I actually like to buy my girl flower plants that keep on living past 4 days.
Reply:Funny thing is, women always want to be seen as equal to men. Yet at the same time they expect to be treated differently. If you expect him to buy you things to "woo you", why not buy him something too?

Reply:The "old system" you speak of has roots in the days of chivalry. Some women love to think back to those days, and how the man made great efforts to win the woman. However, they don't think back to the fact that it was a one-sided affair because women were second-class citizens. They could not vote, had nearly no power, and were in every way subordinate to the husband, who in many cases held the power of life or death over his wife.





These days, women are equal to men in every way. This means that relationships must be equal as well.
Reply:OK first things first. are you dating him? is he ur bf? but for sure he might have done so because you dont give him anything? yes he did go to the extreme and acted like a jerk!


Besides we also like to feel important just make sure you set ur ground and tell him what you think of what he did.

Reply:Call me old fashion, but I was raised that way. A man (or should I say a gentleman) always tries to impress his girl and always looks out for her, no wonder they call this, the "Me generation" always looking to please "Me" and sometimes demand that everyone should take care of "me". I'm pretty sure you'll find a real guy who will take care of you, (and I'm not talking financially) not the other way around. they're still out there so be patient.
Reply:If you are spending your money on him, shame on you. Don't you know that you are not supposed to be asked to buy anything for him. He is using you. It is okay to buy a gift for someone that you love, when he treats you good. It is not okay for him to ask for anything. Your gift should be from the heart, not from his big mouth. Find you a nice guy that will not be asking you for anything, and will buy you a rose without you having to ask for it!!! This one is a loser!!
